Renkas disappearance still under investigation 7 years later

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI— Police have not given up looking for an Iron Mountain woman who disappeared seven years ago.

Nancy Renkas went missing July 18th, 2016, after she got into a vehicle in the Iron Mountain Super One Foods parking lot. A task force consisting of detectives from Michigan and Wisconsin police agencies and the FBI out of Marquette and Green Bay was formed to find her. Officials say they meet regularly and are making progress with the investigation.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says the seven-year time frame since her disappearance will allow certain legal proceedings that will benefit the investigation to take place.

The Michigan Attorney General’s Office has been consulted and also is assisting in the case.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank those that have reached out to offer information regarding the investigation and continues to encourage anyone who might have information about Renkas’ disappearance to come forward.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
