Hunters could find items linked to Goings disappearance, Alger County sheriff says

MUNISING, MI— Alger County Sheriff Todd Brock is asking hunters heading out this weekend to be on the lookout for any clues regarding a missing Munising-area woman.

Starla Goings, 65, was last seen on August 15. She was reported missing two days later. Shortly afterwards, police found her vehicle near the intersection of Peninsula Point Road and M-94 in Munising Township. An extensive search by law enforcement uncovered no information regarding Goings’ location.

Brock is asking hunters who plan to be in the Hiawatha National Forest regions of Alger County to be alert for anything unusual that could help in the investigation. That might include a piece of clothing, a dropped phone, or even recently overturned or disturbed ground.

Brock says while the investigation remains active, hunters are uniquely positioned to notice signs in remote areas that may otherwise go unseen.

Officials say the investigation is being treated as a missing person case with suspicion of foul play.

Anyone with information about Starla Goings is asked to contact the Alger County Sheriff’s Office at 906-387-7030.
