UPDATE, 2/23/26 7:15 pm: Marquette Police say search efforts in the area of Founder’s Landing have been suspended for the evening. Efforts by law enforcement will resume on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. and will focus on the water of the Lower Harbor, near Founder’s Landing, based on further information received on Monday. Searchers with specialized equipment and training will be used.
Volunteers wanting to participate in further land-based search efforts are asked to report to the lobby of the Hampton Inn (461 S. Lakeshore Blvd.) at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday further directions. Volunteers are reminded to stay off the ice in the harbor.
Assisting with the search efforts are the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Northern Michigan University Police Department, Alger County Sheriff’s Office, Marquette Fire Department, US Coast Guard Station Marquette, Michigan DNR Conservation Officers, Northern Michigan University President’s Office, numerous businesses, and volunteers.

MARQUETTE, MI— The Marquette Police Department, Marquette County Sheriff's Office, area residents, and emergency services organizations continue to search for missing Northern Michigan University student Trenton Massey, 21.
City Police say he was last seen on video Sunday at 3:25 a.m. in the area of East Baraga Avenue and the Founder's Landing boardwalk. He appears to be disoriented and is having trouble walking. He was seen wearing an olive green and black jacket and dark pants.
Police have released a map of the most relevant search area, given the known circumstances. Officers are asking residents and businesses in the red-shaded area to check camera footage from 3:25 a.m. on 2/22/26 and onward for any signs of Massey. MPD is also asking residents to check their property, including vehicles and outbuildings, for signs of him.
The area in question is south of Washington Street from McClellan Avenue to the Lake Superior shoreline and south to Furnace Street.
