Still no sign of Trenton Massey, but search continues

MARQUETTE, MI— Law enforcement and volunteers will continue to look for Trenton Massey in Marquette Wednesday.

Police are focusing on the Lower Harbor, near Founder’s Landing. Video indicates Massey wandered to the end of a dock in the area early Sunday morning, then disappeared from the camera’s view. Officials are using sonar, an underwater search apparatus, an airboat, and a helicopter to see if the 21-year-old NMU student might have fallen through the ice.

Volunteers who want to help with land-based search efforts are asked to report to the lobby of the Hampton Inn at 10 a.m. for further directions. Volunteers are reminded to stay off the ice in the harbor.

In a Facebook post, Massey’s mother says she’s incredibly grateful for the officers, volunteers, businesses, donors, and members of the NMU community who have stepped up to help find her son.

Assisting with the search efforts on Tuesday were the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Northern Michigan University Police Department, U.S. Coast Guard Station Marquette, Michigan DNR Conservation Officers, U.S. Army, No One Left Behind K9 Search and Rescue, Northern Michigan University, and numerous businesses and volunteers.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
