MELLEN TOWNSHIP, MI— A number of agencies converged at the Menominee River in Mellen Township over the weekend to search for a missing man.

Brett Parrett was last heard from on April 5, when he said he was walking along west County Road G-12. On Saturday, the Mellen Township Fire Department was in a unified command with the Menominee County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Kudwa also activated MABAS—or Mutual Aid Box Alarm System—assistance, which allows fire, EMS, and specialized rescue teams to assist other communities.

Mellen Fire requested boats to assist in the search of the Menominee River from a quarter mile south of the G-8 Bridge to the Koss Bridge. Authorities searched the seven-mile stretch of the water but came up with nothing.

Assisting in the event were Menominee Fire Department Local 604, fire departments from the City of Menominee, City of Marinette, Town of Peshtigo, and Crivitz, the Middle Inlet Dive Team, Mid-County Rescue Squad, and Aurora Bay Area Medical Center.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
