Negaunee businesses get funding to improve façades

City of Negaunee

NEGAUNEE, MI— Two Negaunee businesses have received $50,000 in façade grants.

The Downtown Development Authority approved the grants last week.

City Manager Nate Heffron says last year the City Council earmarked $200,000 in American Recovery Act funding to be spent over the next two years for façade grants for downtown buildings.

$25,000 was awarded to Love and Bicycles. The money will be used to install new windows and restore the storefront to its historical character.

Another $25,000 went to Rachel Grossman, who bought Chappers Pub and plans to open a new restaurant in the building. She will also use the grant to restore the historical façade.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
