Michigan parks getting ARPA funding for repair and maintenance projects

MARQUETTE, MI— State parks in three Upper Peninsula counties will receive part of nearly $16 million to address a backlog of maintenance projects.

The money is part of Phase 1 funding through the state’s Building Michigan Together Plan, a package that includes $250 million in American Rescue Plan monies.

Fayette Historic State Park in Delta County is getting $600,000 to reconstruct the south wall of the west casting house and another $400,000 to reconstruct approximately 300 feet of retaining wall adjacent to charcoal kilns in the park’s townsite.

Straits State Park in Mackinac County will get $2 million dollars to replace two upper campground toilet and shower buildings.

Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in Ontonagon County is getting $1.4 million to renovate and preserve the modern lodge, staff quarters, mechanic's shop, carpenter's shop and fire barn.
