Upper Peninsula airports get state money for improvements

LANSING, MI— Four U.P. airports will receive a portion of $4 million in state improvement grants.

The one-time money comes from the Michigan Aeronautics Commission and the Michigan Department of Transportation. It can be used for 44 improvement projects.

The Ontonagon County Airport is getting $170,000 to buy a tractor mulcher. Sanderson Field in Sault Ste. Marie will receive $50,000 to acquire a tug and ground power unit. The Albert J. Lindberg Airport in Hessel has been given $85,000 for pavement joints and to seal the pavement surface. And the Luce County Airport in Newberry is getting $47,150 to seal the pavement surface and create pavement joints.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
