Historical Society receives check from Lake Superior paddle boarders

WHITEFISH POINT, MI--   Three men who paddle boarded across Lake Superior have presented a check to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society.

Joe Lorenz, Kwin Morris and Jeff Guy—known as Three Stand-up Guys—traveled 60 miles in 21 hours in July to raise money.

On the 43rd anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald the men gave a $15,000 check to the historical society. The presentation was held Saturday at Whitefish Point at an event held to honor those who lost their lives on the Great Lakes.

The men are co-founders of Stand Up for the Great Lakes, a non-profit set up to protect the lakes and educate others about freshwater resources.

Morris says they laid a wreath of white carnations over the spot where the Edmund Fitzgerald sank to give respect to all sailors who have gone down.

The journey began in Sinclair Cove, Ontario and ended at Whitefish Point.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
