The Marquette Symphony Orchestra’s "Sounds of the Holidays" concert is a cherished tradition in the Upper Peninsula, and this year brings an exciting new addition to the lineup. As Board of Trustees President Cole Williams shared, the orchestra is thrilled to continue the festive celebration on Saturday, December 14, at 7:30 p.m. at Kaufman Auditorium. Known for drawing sellout crowds, this evening performance remains the MSO's most popular event of the year, featuring beloved holiday classics, guest conductors Dr. Erin Colwitz and Dr. Matt Ludwig, and a performance by the Marquette Choral Society.
For the first time, the MSO is offering an abridged, family-focused matinee on Sunday, December 15, at 2:00 p.m. Designed for younger audiences, the one-hour program is perfect for families with children, providing an engaging and accessible introduction to live orchestral music. While the Choral Society will not be part of the Sunday program, attendees can still enjoy a mix of holiday favorites such as "Silent Night" and "Let It Snow," along with whimsical selections like music from "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone."
Williams emphasized the orchestra’s commitment to reaching younger audiences and creating opportunities for families to experience the magic of a live symphony. "We hope this matinee encourages families to bring their kids and enjoy a performance tailored to them," he said, highlighting discounted ticket prices and the availability of prime seats for the new Sunday show.

As the MSO looks to the future, Williams also teased their January 18th performance, "Symphonic Broadway," featuring musical highlights from "Phantom of the Opera" and works by Sondheim.
