The Local Spin with Mike Walker of Bogue, Part Two

After more than two decades, “How’d You Feel About Talkin’ To Me,” the long-shelved album from early-2000s Detroit band Bogue, is finally getting a proper release. Former guitarist and current Marquette resident Mike Walker recently returned to the studio to reflect on the journey that led from a derailed release to international distribution.

Originally recorded in 2002 at Detroit’s Ghetto Recorders, the album had been left in limbo for years. A planned release through a Detroit label collapsed, leaving Walker to navigate legal obstacles before regaining the rights to the recordings. The turning point came when Portuguese label Chaputa! Records stepped in, offering not only a fresh start but an enthusiastic vision for getting the music out into the world.

The album has been remastered by Jim Diamond, known for his work with The White Stripes and other Detroit acts, bringing new clarity and emotional resonance to a set of raw, soulful garage-punk tracks. For Walker, the remastering process brought long-buried memories to the surface (both sonically and personally), as the songs sparked vivid recollections of live shows, old friends, and the gritty energy of Detroit’s Cass Corridor music scene.

More than a revival of a lost album, the release carries deep emotional weight. Walker’s bandmates—singer/guitarist Dan Meister and drummer Matt Blake—both passed away in the years following the original recordings. For a long time, Walker viewed the album as something best left in the past. But with time, perspective, and support from others in the creative community, he came to see the release as an opportunity to celebrate the legacy of his bandmates and reconnect with a powerful moment in his musical life.

The album is already garnering international attention, with sold-out red vinyl pressings in the U.S. and European editions making their way into respected record shops like Goner Records and Amoeba Music. A newly produced music video for the title track adds a visual layer, combining vintage Bogue footage with archival imagery, including interviews and live performances that hadn’t been seen since the early 2000s.

Walker now sees this long-awaited release as both a tribute and a turning point. It offers a moment to honor what was—and to move forward with renewed creative energy. Though the songs remain tied to a specific time and place, he hopes new listeners will connect with the album's core mission: to dance, let go, and feel the joy of rock and roll.

"How’d You Feel About Talkin’ To Me" is officially available August 1 through Chaputa! Records. Locally, vinyl copies are available at Yooptone Music, Jim’s Music, and The Emporium in Marquette. For those searching elsewhere, Walker suggests reaching out to him directly; just look for "Taco Mike Walker."
