A conversation with organizer Jon Teichman

Jon Teichman, advisor of the NMU Vinyl Record Club and longtime organizer of record shows in Marquette, is preparing for a new twist on a familiar event. The next edition of Geoff and Jon’s Record Show will be a one-day gathering at Blackrocks Brewery on Saturday, August 30, running from noon until 11 p.m. The show coincides with the Endless Summer Festival, an all-day celebration of music, art, food, and community.

The record show, usually held over multiple days, will instead be condensed into a single day inside the Blackrocks pub. Visitors can expect thousands of items for sale, including vinyl records, CDs, cassettes, books, stickers, and posters. While the show takes place at Blackrocks on Saturday, additional “pre-show” browsing opportunities will be available earlier in the week at The Emporium on Third Street, with extended hours from Wednesday through Friday, as well as a Sunday session after the festival.

For music fans, the crates will hold everything from classic rock staples to emerging artists, alongside plenty of unexpected pop culture finds. Teichman emphasized that the goal is to create a wide-ranging mix that appeals to longtime collectors as well as newcomers, and that students from the NMU Record Club also play an active role in supporting and promoting the shows.

Listen to Teichman speak with Public Radio 90's Kurt Hauswirth about the show:

The Endless Summer Festival will feature thirteen musical acts on three stages, fourteen visual artists, and four food trucks. Performances will include local favorites like Ramble Tamble, Seahounds, The Make-Believe Spurs, and Sycamore Smith. Artists such as Madgoodies, Strange Bird Stitching, and Sawft Sea will showcase work ranging from fiber arts and fine art to murals and live poetry.

Teichman described the event as a chance to celebrate creativity in many forms, with opportunities for discovery, whether through music, visual art, or community conversation. Attendance interest has already been strong, with hundreds responding online.

Looking ahead, the record show will return to Blackrocks for a Halloween-themed event on November 1, and The Emporium on Third will continue to host regular browsing hours. More details can be found on the organizers’ website.

Kurt lives in Marquette with his family and can’t imagine living anywhere else. He loves music, games, jogging, being near water, and a fine cold brew coffee.
