The Marquette County Habitat for Humanity will host a Bingo Night fundraiser to raise operational funds that help people find and retain affordable housing. We recently spoke with Bob Howe, the Director of the Marquette County Habitat for Humanity ReStore, regarding the upcoming Bingo Night scheduled for Monday, May 11, at The Mather in Ishpeming.
The upcoming Bingo Night marks the third time the organization has hosted the event, which has previously seen high engagement in both Marquette and Ishpeming. Howe noted that the gathering has become a notable point of community connection, attracting a wide demographic of participants. By rotating the venue between different municipalities, the organization aims to remain accessible to residents across the county.
Proceeds from the event are channeled into several core programs designed to address substandard housing in Marquette County. These include:
- New Construction: Ongoing projects such as the duplexes currently being developed in Harvey and recently completed homes in West Ishpeming.
- Home Repairs: A program focused on neighborhood stabilization, helping long-term residents and senior citizens maintain their properties amidst a tightening real estate market.
- Emergency Ramps: The construction of temporary and permanent ramps to ensure residents can safely return to their homes following medical procedures.
Public Radio 90's Kurt Hauswirth spoke with Howe about the bingo night and the nonprofit:
Doors for the Bingo Night at The Mather open at 5:30 PM, with gameplay scheduled from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Tickets are available in advance at the ReStore on Carmen Drive or may be obtained at the door the evening of the event. For those unable to attend, the organization continues to accept support through volunteers for construction and retail operations, as well as donations of furniture and appliances.
