LANSING, MI (AP)-- Two gay marriage rulings from the U.S. Supreme Court haven't changed Michigan Governor Rick Snyder's position on the issue.
The Republican is continuing to avoid taking a high-profile personal stand on same-sex marriage.
Spokeswoman Sara Wurfel said Wednesday that the court's decisions have no effect on Michigan's 2004 constitutional prohibition against same-sex marriage.
She says Snyder respects the Michigan Constitution but if voters decide to change it, he would respect that decision, too. Wurfel says Snyder is focused on "Michigan's continued comeback, jobs, a healthy Michigan and our kids."
Her comments echoed Snyder's previous comments on gay marriage.
To repeal the voter-approved ban, advocates are planning to collect signatures in a 2016 ballot drive because odds of the Republican-led Legislature putting it on the 2014 ballot are slim.
