Candidates stumping for female vote

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Michigan's gubernatorial and other candidates are intensifying their efforts for the women's vote three weeks before Election Day.

Mark Schauer's running mate Lisa Brown and other Democrats held events Tuesday to criticize Republicans on equal pay, birth control, abortion insurance coverage and other issues. Meanwhile, Republican Gov. Rick Snyder hosted another event to highlight women's role in "strengthening" Michigan.

Polling has shown Snyder generally faring better among men and Schauer doing better with women voters.

Democrats brought attention to new restrictions on abortion coverage in Michigan's public and private health insurance plans.

The Republican-led Legislature approved the law after Snyder vetoed a similar version. The governor cited concerns about government overreach and a lack of exceptions for cases of rape and incest and when a woman's health is at risk.
