Dianda bill would prevent lawmakers from being housed with lobbyists

LANSING, MI--   Representative Scott Dianda of Calumet has introduced a bill that would prevent the Michigan House or Senate from sharing space with lobbyists.

The Senate recently moved to a new building.  Dianda says they’re now paying rent to a political contributor to the Republican Party.  He says it looks like political favoritism.

The legislation would prevent the House or Senate from entering into a contract to purchase, develop or lease a building or grounds if the building or grounds also houses a lobbyist or lobbying firm as defined by Michigan law.

Dianda says Michigan is about to become the first state in the country where elected officials will share the same space as registered lobbyists.  He says, “It will be one-stop shopping for special interests in Lansing.”
