Randy Girard throws hat in ring for 109th House District seat

MARQUETTE, MI— Marquette County Road Commissioner Randy Girard says he’s running for the Michigan House of Representatives 109th District seat.

He made the announcement at Wednesday night’s Marquette Charter Township Board meeting.

Girard says the voting record of current Representative Jenn Hill on issues like land use determination, energy requirements, and individual rights doesn’t reflect an understanding of Upper Peninsula constituents.

Girard currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Marquette Community Federal Credit Union and Board of Directors for the Marquette County YMCA. He previously served 19 years as Marquette County HR Director and most recently served 19 years as Manager for Marquette Charter Township. Girard was previously elected to two terms on the Marquette County Board of Commissioners and served 14 years on the Municipal Employees Retirement System of Michigan Board of Directors.

He will run as a Democrat against Hill and Margaret Brumm in the August 2024 primary, while Burt Mason is running as a Republican.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
