Gwen Walz travels to Marquette and Escanaba on campaign tour

MARQUETTE, MI— Gwen Walz held a rally and knocked on doors on a trip to the Upper Peninsula over the weekend.

On Friday, the wife of Minnesota Governor and Democratic vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz held a rally at NMU, along with Representative Jenn Hill and singer/actress Mandy Moore.

Walz urged residents to vote early. She said people are tired of Republican presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump.

“Sowing chaos and division. Lying right to our faces. And always, always, always, making everything all about himself. Because you see, he sees a world where only a few can get ahead, while the rest of us are left behind.”

Walz said Vice President Kamala Harris wants to create an opportunity economy for all.

Walz also touched on health care, tax cuts for the middle class, and reproductive rights. She noted Trump’s statements about wanting unchecked power or being a “dictator on day one” if he wins are troubling.

“Trump’s not running to make your life better. He is running to settle scores on all of his gripes and grievances, and he wants unchecked power to do it.”

On Saturday, Walz traveled to Escanaba to speak at Bay College. She also visited volunteers and went door-to-door herself to make a pitch for the Harris/Walz ticket.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
