Former Michigan health officer Abdul El-Sayed is coming to the U.P. to hold town hall meetings. He's running for the U.S. Senate seat that will be vacated when Senator Gary Peters leaves office.

El-Sayed spoke with Public Radio 90 News Director Nicole Walton about why he's running.

He's holding town halls on the following days:

  • Marquette: Tuesday, 6/10 at 6 p.m. at NMU's Northern Center
  • Escanaba: Wednesday, 6/11 at 6 p.m. at United Steel Workers Local 221
  • Sault Ste. Marie: Thursday, 6/12 at 6 p.m. at LSSU's Arts Center Main Theater
Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
