MARQUETTE, MI— Two Republicans announced this week they’re running for the 38th District state Senate seat currently held by Senator Ed McBroom.
108th District Representative Dave Prestin announced his candidacy Tuesday.
“Our communities deserve leaders who understand the challenges of living, working, and raising a family up north, from energy costs and healthcare access to job creation and government overreach. I’m running to make sure Lansing never forgets the people and priorities of the Upper Peninsula,” he said.
On Monday, former Representative for the 108th District, Beau LaFave, announced he is also running to replace Ed McBroom.
On Facebook, LaFave said, “I stood up for the U.P., and it will be my honor to do it again. I introduced Articles of Impeachment against Governor Gretchen Whitmer for her corrupt conduct in office. I fought the vaccine mandates, forcing kids against their will to wear masks in schools, the overreaching DNR, tax increases, and gun control. I will defend U.P. values and our way of life against the predations of Lansing Special Interests.”
Also running for the Senate seat are Republican Christopher Reynolds and Democrat Kelli van Ginhoven.
McBroom cannot run again due to term limits.
