Menominee County Commissioner Larry Johnson running for 108th District Rep.

MENOMINEE, MI— A Menominee County Commissioner is running for the state House in the 108th District.

Republican Larry Johnson announced his bid Thursday. He’s served as commissioner for District 9 since 2019.

Johnson is currently overseeing the installation of a new sawmill in Escanaba. He’s been self-employed the past 15 years, repairing electrical and hydraulic systems across the U.P. He’s also done cleanup work under government contracts after hurricanes, floods, and ice storms.

“I’m not a career politician. I come from a blue-collar background and have built a career working across a variety of trades,” said Johnson. “That hands-on experience has given me a practical understanding of the challenges our communities face and taught me to tackle problems head-on. My goal is simple: to build on the progress our current U.P. legislators have made and continue making this region an even better place for the next generation.”

Johnson is running for the seat currently held by Republican Dave Prestin, who has launched a bid for the state Senate.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
