Callie Barr files nominating paperwork in her campaign for 1st District Representative

Callie Barr

LANSING, MI— Callie Barr submitted more than 1,500 nominating petition signatures in Lansing Monday in her bid for representative of the 1st Congressional District.

It’s her second try for the seat currently held by Congressman Jack Bergman.

Barr said it’s a time of massive income inequality in the country, and she’s running on a platform of giving people an affordable “LIFE.”

“It’s local housing, income, food, and essential healthcare. And I wish right now, I wish I could be on a platform where I’m talking about how we’re going to be more like the Jetsons and less like Terminator, but the reality is that right now, people just want a shot. They just want to have a chance.”

Barr said the 1st District deserves a representative who will show up for constituents, not someone who gets paid taxpayer dollars for not doing their job.

Michigan Public's Steve Carmody contributed to this story.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
