Navy vet, Bay Mills member runs for 108th House District

Rachel Keys

BRIMLEY, MI— A member of the Bay Mills Indian Community is running for Michigan’s 108th House District seat.

Rachel Keys is a Navy veteran and a keeper of the Point Iroquois Lighthouse in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service.

A Democrat, Keys says she’s running to give the eastern and central Upper Peninsula a representative who is living what U.P. families live. Her campaign is focusing on affordable healthcare, rural and maternal care, strong public schools, standing with veterans, the protection of forests and waterways, and made-in-the-U.P. energy.

Keys says, "I know service is more than just ‘winning’. Real service requires sacrifice, requires loss. I know how to serve, and I will serve You, the People.”

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
