911 outage reported by Centurylink in Schoolcraft County

MANISTIQUE, MI--   911 service is out in the Manistique area.

At 3 p.m. Thursday Centurylink contacted Negaunee Regional Dispatch and reported a fiber in their hard line phone system had been cut. The outage affects 2,219 customers.

Centurylink advised it had found the damage and crews would be working around the clock to repair it. It’s unknown when repairs will be complete.

As a result, residents will not be able to call Regional Dispatch using a land line phone; residents can’t contact the Schoolcraft County Sheriff or Manistique Public Safety using a hard line phone in the Manistique area; people using cell phones generally will be able to reach Negaunee Regional Dispatch by calling 911 or 800-411-0018, or the Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Office at 341-2122.

Manistique Public Safety says if you have an emergency, first contact a friend who has a cell phone to make the emergency call. If that doesn’t work, carefully drive to the Sheriff’s Office on Maple Street to report the emergency.
