INTERLOCHEN, MI (MPRN)-- The Governor’s notice to shut down Line 5 by May won’t affect how the state reviews plans to replace the pipelines.
That’s according to a ruling from a Michigan judge this week.
The decision comes as the Michigan Public Service Commission decides whether Canadian energy company Enbridge can dig a tunnel beneath the Straits of Mackinac to house a new section of Line 5.
The ruling says the state agency can’t consider the long-term impacts of greenhouse gas emissions from the project, nor can it consider the public need for Line 5.
Environmental groups say they will appeal the judge's decision.
