Upper Peninsula lawmakers sworn in as new legislative session begins

LANSING, MI--   Several U.P. lawmakers took the oath of office in Lansing Wednesday.

Ed McBroom was formally sworn in as senator of the 38th District during a ceremony at the state Capitol. Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Stephen J. Markman administered the oath of office.

State Representative Sara Cambensy was sworn in for the 109th House District for the 2019-2020 legislative session.

And Representative Beau LaFave took the oath to serve his second term for the 108th House District.

Michigan Supreme Court Justice Bridget McCormack administered the oath to Cambensy and LaFave. She was later unanimously elected to serve a two-year term as Chief Justice, succeeding Justice Stephen Markman. McCormack is the sixth woman to serve as Chief Justice.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
