Western UP meth suspects sentenced in US District Court

GRAND RAPIDS, MI--   Eight defendants have been sentenced to federal prison for their roles in dealing crystal meth in the western Upper Peninsula.

The following were sentenced by U.S. District Judges Robert Jonker and Janet Neff:

  • Keith Raymond, 31, of Ewen—90 months for distribution of meth, 90 months for felon in possession of a firearm
  • Darian Belongie, 30, of Ewen—120 months in prison for conspiracy to distribute more than 50 grams of meth
  • Pedro Gonzalez, 37, of L’Anse—60 months for distribution of more than 50 grams of meth, 60 months for possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime
  • Alan Hollon, 29, of L’Anse—188 months for conspiracy to distribute more than 50 grams of meth, 120 months for being a felon in possession of a firearm
  • Anthony Duran, 28, of Santa Monica, California—68 months in prison for conspiracy to distribute more than 50 grams of meth
  • Elizabeth Minnick, 24, of Watersmeet—72 months for conspiracy to distribute 5 grams or more of meth
  • Kathy Jo Harry, 41, of Houghton—27 months for conspiracy to distribute 5 grams or more of meth
  • Justin Hartzog, 26, of Watersmeet—60 months for conspiracy to distribute 5 grams or more of meth

The sentences were the culmination of a long-term investigation by the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives into methamphetamine distribution and illicit firearms possession on the west end.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
