Soo park to benefit from ARPA funds

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— The City of Sault Ste. Marie is one of nearly 24 communities in the state to receive funding to revamp public recreation opportunities.

The municipalities are getting a portion of American Rescue Plan Act money in the form of Michigan Spark Grants. Around $716,000 is headed to the Soo to revitalize Alford Park. It will include the addition of accessible pedestrian paths and amenities such as bike racks, picnic tables, and benches.

Officials say $14.2 million in Spark Grants was earmarked for 21 communities throughout the state.
