HOUGHTON COUNTY, MI— A Houghton County snowmobile and ORV trail severely damaged by the Father’s Day flood of 2018 has reopened.

The Department of Natural Resources celebrated on Friday the restoration of a roughly eight-mile section of the Dollar Bay to Lake Linden segment of Trail No. 3.

The DNR says 171 sites along the trail needed repair work, including around 100 culverts and 34 major washouts. Some of the washouts were 80 feet deep and 240 feet across.

The project cost $10.5 million to complete.

Partners on the project included the Michigan Departments of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, the Michigan Department of Transportation, the Department of Technology, Management & Budget, several construction companies, and contractors.
