UP state and national parks get money for access improvements

MARQUETTE, MI— Two Upper Peninsula projects are getting funding to improve access, visitor experience, and environmental conservation in state and national parks.

The money will come through the National Park Service Mobility Challenge Program.

The Superior Watershed and Land Conservancy is getting $240,000 to install multi-modal chargers in Hancock, Munising, and Grand Marais—gateway communities to Keweenaw National Historical Park and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

The Department of Natural Resources is getting $10,000 to deploy off-road track wheelchairs at Muskallonge State Park. They will help improve access to outdoor recreation for persons with disabilities. The project is part of a larger statewide campaign through the DNR to provide off-road wheelchairs at Michigan State Parks.
