LUCE COUNTY, MI— DNR Law Enforcement officers helped the Luce County Sheriff’s Office rescue a stranded snowmobiler Monday evening.

An individual had become stranded near Trail 8 in an open area by the Little Two Hearted River, west of Little Lake Harbor. The Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the DNR. A sergeant and several officers from the eastern U.P. responded on snowmobiles.

Officials say the team consisting of deputies and DNR officers encountered significant obstacles while making their way to the GPS coordinates provided by Central Dispatch. Parts of M-123 North and County Road 500 were completely blocked by large snow drifts.

The stranded individual was located late in the evening and transported to the County Road 500 staging area to warm up.

The Luce County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend its sincere appreciation to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the dispatchers at Chippewa County Central Dispatch for their assistance in this successful rescue.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
