UNDATED— It’s time to Fall Back this weekend.
Clocks move back one hour Sunday at 2 a.m.
State Fire Marshal Kevin Sehlmeyer says the Daylight Saving Time change is a good time to replace the batteries in their smoke detectors. Even better, he says, is upgrading to lithium battery smoke detectors with 10-year lifespans.
So far this year, Michigan has experienced 95 fire fatalities. Officials say 73 percent of those fatalities occurred in cases where there weren’t working smoke detectors.
Sehlmeyer says detectors should be tested every month. Also, make sure you have a smoke alarm in every bedroom, outside of sleeping areas, and have one smoke alarm on every level of your home, including the basement.
