Houghton County deputies start training with Project Lifesaver equipment

Houghton County Sheriff's Office

HOUGHTON, MI— The Houghton County Sheriff's Office is moving forward with the next phase of Project Lifesaver.

Under the program, 50 families from Houghton, Baraga, Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties will get Radio Frequency Transmitters. The transmitters will be worn by family members who are prone to wandering. Sheriff’s offices from all four counties and Superior Search and Rescue will have equipment designed to pick up the transmitter signals.

Houghton County deputies have begun to learn about and train with the equipment on the Michigan Tech trails. Officials say they’re excited to have the program available to the public very soon.
