Project Lifesaver now available to Houghton County families

HOUGHTON, MI— Enrollment for Project Lifesaver is now open in Houghton County.

The Portage Health Foundation is funding wearable transmitters for individuals in the Western U.P. who are prone to wandering. Partner agencies, like the Houghton, Keweenaw, Ontonagon and Baraga county sheriff’s offices and Superior Search and Rescue, will have antennas to receive the signals when someone wanders.

All Houghton County deputies have completed training for the program. To enroll, email either jsaaranen@houghtonsheriff.com, cklein@houghtonsheriff.com, visit the Portage Health Foundation website at phfgive.org/projectlifesaver, or call the Sheriff's Office at 906-482-0055.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
