Nearly $150,000 given to Copper Peak for tower improvements

usaskijumping.org

IRONWOOD, MI— Copper Peak in Ironwood is getting more than $148,000 to improve its ski jump tower.

The money comes from the Great Lakes Sports Commission. It will be used for structural repairs and chairlift upgrades—including installation of racks to transport mountain bikes to the top of the hill via the chair lift.

GLSC chair Fritz Erickson says the improvements will increase the attraction of Copper Peak as a cycling destination. He says the project will bring nearly $2 million in revenue each year to the Western U.P.

The 90-story Copper Peak is the largest scaffold ski jump in the world. Its Adventure Ride currently attracts more than 12,000 visitors and generates more than $200,000 in revenue each year from tourism.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
