With 3 days in Vienna we'll have lots of time to explore the city.
Below are some fun things to do and see in Vienna during our free time.
I'm going to try to see as many as I can. I'm hoping some adventurous travelers will want to join me.
Danube Island Park
The primary function of the Danube Island project is to reinforce Vienna's flood protection system. Another idea behid the Danube Island project was to provide easily accessible facilities for both sports and leisure activities. The 21 kilometer long Danube island is not only the favorite recreational region of the Viennese, it is also an unforgettable experience for visitors to Vienna. The Danube Island can be reached from the city center in just a few minutes via the subway. An expansive network of trails invites the athletically inclined to hike, jog, cycle and skate. Bathing areas with flat beaches as well as natural bathing sites, a water slide, a climbing park, the world's biggest trampline center, a water playground, a surfing school, a water ski lift and a boat rental service offer plenty of opportunities for fun on and in the water.
Danube Island Climbing Park
At the Danube Island climbing park, fearless visitors can climb to stations at up to 10 meters.
World's Biggest Trampoline Center
At the "Danube Jumping" complex in the immediate vicinity of the Reichsbrucke, young and old jump closer to the sky. And all in front of Vienna's wonderful skyline. We're talking about the world's biggest floating trampoline center, with 40 individual jumping areas. Trampolining is a unique combination of sport and fun: The Adults should also have a go!
The Original Vienna Snow Globe Shop.
In 1900, Erwin Perzy, a fine instruments mechanic, was trying to improve the brightness of lightbulbs for a surgical lamp. But instead, he accidentally invented a snow globe. This first snow globe featured the Basilica of Mariazell, and was the catalyst for Perzy and his brother to open The Original Vienna Snow Globe shop. Over 100 years later, they are still making traditional snow globes right in Vienna, all ahnd painted and manually assembled.
The Vienna Giant Wheel, or Wiener Riesenrad
The Giant Wheel was built in 1897 to honor the Golden Jubilee of Emperor Franz Josef I. A year later, in a protest intended to draw attention to the city’s poor, a woman hung herself outside one of the cabins. By 1916, a demolition permit was issued, but there wasn’t enough money to actually destroy it. In 1944, it was burned down, rebuilt the next year, and put back in rotation in 1947.
The Vienna Zoo or Tiergarten Schonbrunn.
The Vienna Zoo is the worlds’ largest, oldest and only baroque zoo, built in the gardens of Schonbrunn Palace in 1752. Tiergarten Schönbrunn boasts over 700 different animal species and was voted the best zoo in Europe. Plus, with its original baroque architechture, it is also considered the world’s most beautiful zoo.
