GRAWN, MI (AP)-- A black bear that was relocated from a northern Michigan home this week is among many that are on the move as they emerge from winter dens.
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that staffers with the state Department of Natural Resources tranquilized and moved a bear Tuesday. The adult male was found beneath the porch of a house in Grawn.
DNR bear specialist Kevin Swanson says this time of year, they often seek food from sources like trash cans, grills and bird feeders.
He says people should remove and store such targets until the woods green up and bears go there in search of more natural foods.
Swanson says people should never try to feed or tame bears because the animals need to retain their natural fear of humans.
