MARQUETTE COUNTY, MI— The Department of Natural Resources has established new slot limits for walleye on Lake Independence and Teal Lake in Marquette County.

Possession season for walleye on inland waters opens Friday, May 15, and anglers should be aware of a regulation change for walleye on those two waters.

Walleye from 18-23 inches must be released. The minimum size limit for possession remains at 15 inches. The daily possession limit for walleye on these waters also remains at five fish; however, only one of those five walleye can be more than 23 inches long.

Information about the new limits can be found in the 2026 Michigan Fishing Regulations.
