HOUGHTON, MI (AP)-- Nearly 200 college students in Houghton have been serving their community before hitting the books.
Students from Michigan Technological University visited schools Monday for yard work, gardening, window washing and more. It wasn't hard to find jobs: Local school leaders offered plenty of chores.
George Stockero, superintendent of the Copper Country Intermediate District, replied by saying, "We'd be happy to have you."
Rachel Jones, assistant director of residence education at Michigan Tech, says one of the goals was to get student leaders socializing and working together. Erica Coscarelli volunteered to wash windows. She called the work "all worthwhile stuff."
Classes at Michigan Tech start on September 4.
