ESCANABA, MI-- Upper Peninsula veterans are in Washington D.C. Thursday to see the World War II Memorial.
The third U.P. Honor Flight took off from the Delta County Airport Thursday morning, carrying 76 veterans and others to the nation’s capital so they could remember their military years and those who served.
The U.P. Honor Flight Network is a non-profit group that raised $92,000 to enable the elderly and ill vets to go for free. Officials say it’s a small way to pay tribute to and thank the men and women who gave so much.
The veterans return to Escanaba Thursday night, and residents are being urged to show up at the airport to welcome them home. The plane is scheduled to land at 9:30 p.m.
