Former Gladstone Post commander sent downstate

GLADSTONE, MI--   A former U.P. State Police Post commander charged with drunk driving has been demoted and sent to Lansing.

Lieutenant William Smith was arrested in Chippewa County July 7 after he got into an accident with his personal vehicle.  The case was later dismissed after Smith’s blood alcohol test was thrown out.

Smith was suspended with pay throughout the case and suspended 15 days without pay.  Michigan State Police officials say Smith has been demoted to Sergeant and transferred to the Lansing Post.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
