Fire destroys Manistique home

MANISTIQUE, MI--   No human injuries are reported, following a house fire in Manistique.

Officials from Manistique Public Safety say the fire broke out at 195 North Maple Street Sunday shortly after 5 a.m.

When officials arrived they found the first floor of the house fully engulfed.

The five occupants of the home and two dogs were able to escape the blaze, but a third dog was lost.

Officials say the fire began when a space heater overturned in a downstairs bedroom and set clothing and bedding aflame.  The house is considered a total loss.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
