Snowing and blowing

MARQUETTE, MI--   Michigan State Police say if you don’t have to travel anywhere Friday, stay inside.

A winter storm warning remains in effect until early afternoon for the Central U.P. and until tonight for the Eastern U.P.  Roads are snow covered and slippery, and troopers are strongly urging residents to stay off the roadways for their own safety.

About 700 people are without power in the Upper Peninsula Friday morning, as strong winds have blown trees and branches onto power lines.  CMS Energy Corporation's Consumers Energy Unit says at least 60,000 downstate customers have lost power since the storm began, and 27,150 remain powerless Friday morning.

The National Weather Service says snowfall totals could reach 13 inches in the U.P. and 14 inches in Northern Lower Michigan before the storm exits Michigan.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
