National Guard company returns to the U.P.

KINGSFORD, MI--   The 1432nd Engineer Company of the National Guard out of Kingsford is back on home soil.

Area residents lined up to thank the 80 soldiers, who landed in the U.P. Thursday.  The group left last may for a ten-month deployment in Afghanistan.

The troops had just one more hurdle before they could go home.  The company’s bus broke down after it left the airport and another had to be sent from Ishpeming to transport the soldiers to their destination.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
