LANSING, MI (AP)-- The Republican-led Michigan Senate has postponed a vote on legislation that could block a group's effort to prohibit wolf hunting.
The Senate was expected to vote on the bill Wednesday. It would allow the Natural Resources Commission to designate game species, which currently only the Legislature can do.
The Senate also didn't vote on a proposal to the 2014 ballot to enshrine the right to hunt and fish in the state's constitution.
Lawmakers approved designating wolves as a game species last year, but opponents recently gathered more than 240,000 signatures to request a statewide vote on whether the animals should be hunted.
The Senate spent Wednesday voting on budget bills. The hunting measures could be taken up as early as Thursday.
