Increased patrols will promote safe driving

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   Michigan State Police in the Eastern U.P. are stepping up efforts to promote traffic safety.

Troopers from the Sault Ste. Marie Post are dedicating patrols to traffic enforcement in Chippewa and Luce counties over the summer, concentrating on M-123.

Police will focus on aggressive driving, including tailgating, speeding, improper passing, and operating under the influence of alcohol.

Officials say Chippewa and Luce counties are tourist destinations that see high volumes of traffic between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
