U.P. woman wins state photo contest

UNDATED - An Upper Peninsula woman has won a Pure Michigan statewide photo contest. Carla White, of Christmas, is the winner of the Michigan Moments contest. Her photograph features a sunset over Lake Superior near Christmas.The photo will be published in the 2014 spring/summer Pure Michigan Travel Guide. One million copies of the guide will be printed, with 650,000 copies being distributed with the March/April issue of Midwest Living Magazine.

More than 3,000 photos ranging from picturesque landscapes to urban adventures and featuring all four seasons and destinations across the state were submitted to Pure Michigan through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. In total, 56,211 votes were cast during the contest.

Hans Ahlström is the host of several programs, including the daily musical variety show Weekday, the mostly straight ahead jazz show Night Studio, the self-explanatory Blues Today, and the eclectic Sound Spectrum. You can also hear Hans as the local host of NPR's All Things Considered news magazine. He also helps manage Public Radio 90's web content, interviews local and visiting writers and artists, works with NMU student interns, and writes the occasional news story.
