Fatalities reported in Iron County blaze

MERCER, MI--   Two people have been killed in a house fire in Iron County.  

The Sheriff’s Department says the incident happened Wednesday night at a residence on Old Highway 51 Road in the town of Mercer.  Deputies say the structure was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived around 6 p.m. 

The bodies of a 37-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man were found after the fire was extinguished.  Their identities have not yet been released. 

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
