Free Fishing Weekend coming up

michigan.org

LANSING, MI (AP)--   The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has scheduled its annual winter weekend when people can fish without a license.

Free Fishing Weekend will be February 15 and 16.  All state fishing regulations except the license requirement will remain in effect on those dates.

Michigan has celebrated the Winter Free Fishing Weekend every year since 1994 to promote the sport and awareness of the state's water resources.  Among them are more than 3,000 miles of Great Lakes shoreline, tens of thousands of miles of rivers and streams, and 11,000 inland lakes.

Activities are being planned around the state to encourage involvement in winter free fishing weekend.  Schools, parks, businesses, and organizations are coordinating them.  A list can be found online at Michigan.gov/freefishing.
