Lost woman and boy located in Porcupine Mountains State Park

ONTONAGON, MI--   The search for a mother and her son lost in the Porcupine Mountains has ended well.

Troopers from the Wakefield Post were called to The Lake of the Clouds viewing area Tuesday around 8:30

p.m.  They were told a 37-year-old woman and her 11-year-old son had become separated from the rest of the family on their way back to the park.  A search was initiated by park rangers, troopers, and a K-9, but they were forced to stop the search around 2 a.m.

The search was resumed 6 a.m. Wednesday, with the help of a Coast Guard helicopter.  At about 8:30 a.m. the woman and her son were found by a Calumet Post K-9 unit on the Carp River Trail about a half-mile from where they were last seen.  Both were in good health and good spirits.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
